Mission

REPERMAD or Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Madagascar to UNESCO: this institution is known as the acronym by the public; within the organization; it is the Permanent Delegation of Madagascar to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). Its mission is in the framework of the ideals of the UNESCO: peace in the world and Humanity development through education, science, culture and communication.

Hereafter some examples of programs currently initiated or managed by the Organization in Madagascar:
- Education for all: non-formal education, literacy, vocational and technical training, promotion and ethic of sport;
- Sciences: biosphere reserve in the North of Mananara, marine biosphere reserve in the Radama-Sahamalaza island, oceanographic data exchanges between the Institute of Halieutic and Marine Sciences of Toliara and domestic and international institutions;
- Preservation of heritage: Tsingy of Bemaraha, Royal hill of Ambohimanga, restoration of the Royal Palace (Rova) of Antananarivo, complex of humid forests sites in the South-East of the great Island and the how-to-skill of the wood by the Zafimaniry.

REPERMAD is lead by an Ambassador assisted by consultants and technicians. Its personal contains officers from the Department of Foreign Affairs, from the Ministry of Education and from the Exchequer. However, they are not paid by the UNESCO and receive any financial support from the Organization. As representatives of the Malagasy State they take part in the management of the Organization and the common programs and are present at the different meetings of the Organization. The Delegation also follows files of the programs concerning Madagascar at the Secretariat of the UNESCO and communicates the information to the National Commission based in the Department of Foreign Affairs in Antananarivo as well as the other institutions concerned. It brings obviously a technical assistance to the Malagasy delegations on missions at headquarter.
