Malagasy people, Masters of the Word - 8th edition of the JMU

On June 9, 2011 at UNESCO, Paris

The JMU 2011 will have as theme: “Malagasy people, Masters of the Word”. The purpose of this first section, of the trilogy devoted to the promotion of cultural tourism in Madagascar for Sustainable development, is to illustrate the concept of unity in diversity in the Malagasy culture.
People which lose his language, lose his culture and his memory. The language is an identity marker of the individual characteristics and his socio cultural memberships. It is essential to preserve and develop the richness of the mother language, without neglecting to transmit to the future generations the conscience of this priceless cultural heritage.

The language is also a growth factor. For this reason, UNESCO attaches much importance and attention to the safeguarding of the mother language in children education and the handing done of social and traditional values. And don’t forget that each February 21st , since 2000, is devoted to the international Day of the mother language by UNESCO, witness of the high interest which the Organization grants to the use of languages in connection of the cultures: “UNESCO member states are helping to protect and revitalize our rich cultural diversity by promoting languages as a means of communication, interaction and understanding among different peoples.”

One of vectors of the cultural unity in Madagascar is the Malagasy language, a language with common origin with some variances and spoken in all the island, essence of Malagasy identity and heritage.

Each event in life gives place to the use of a form of talk resulting from the language.
